About the food:

  • Meals are put near the door 3 times a day. Most likely meals are served on time, but there were instances of the food being delivered late.
  • There were reports of the food being cold by the time it got to the room. However, many people said that the hot meals are at the right temparature and that cold ones are nice and fresh.
  • There’s no menu in the room to choose food from.
  • Example of meals:
    – Breakfast: For two people we got 2 juices, a pudding donut and a chocolate croissant / Puff pastry roll with meat (warm and fresh), apple juice and a tangerine.
    – Lunch: 2 buns, soup (hot, tastes ok but too salty for me) and apple.
  • They don’t provide water bottles or coffee/tea bags with the meal, but you can call the reception and ask. Got water bottles delivered by my door in a minute.
  • You can order food from outside.

  • A few spots in the room needed cleaning.
  • Some oversights in communication.
  • Had access to opening windows (fresh air was a plus!)
  • I found the staff polite and helpful, trying to do their best during a difficult time.
  • Slept comfortably despite being provided a room opposite a building site.

About the food:

  • Food was served on a regular schedule for us 7:45 am, 12:50 pm, 6:00 pm.
  • They serve food from the Whitespot restaurant in their lobby.
  • Repeated meals.
  • We honestly were never hungry because the meals were carbohydrate heavy.

About the value:

  • In comparison to other hotels it was definitely good value for money. You get what you pay for!
  • The Fairmont YVR is normally priced at over $1200 CAD for a 3-night stay. All in all $1800 is honestly not bad considering the quality of the meals provided.

What travellers thought, according to testimonials collected on the Facebook Groups “Canada Hotel Quarantine for Returning Travellers” and “Canada Hotel Quarantine/Hôtel Quarantaine”:

About the room:

  • Spacious and clean room.
  • Hotel provides a pack of sanitizing wipes in the room that you can use to wipe down your suitcase, phone and other high-touch items.
  • The room has a window which I am so grateful for as I wanted as much ventilation as possible in the room.
  • About the service:
  • I feel like a regular guest at a hotel. I don’t feel like a prisoner and am actually enjoying my stay here (after a 24hr journey to Canada a warm bed and a shower never felt so good).
  • The only thing I don’t like is when you check in, no staff is helping you for your luggage.
  • Very good experience in general.
  • Waited a long time for the shuttle service from the airport.

About the food:

  • Balanced meal, good quantity.
  • There is a menu that you can ordrer from.
  • Example of meals:
    – Dinner: Grilled NY Steak with noodles. I was really impressed by this as it was HUGE and seemed like a balanced meal with many vegetables and a healthy serving of protein.
    – Breakfast: Only one option but again, good portion and adequately healthy. Had 2 eggs, bacon, fried potato pieces, fruit, croissant, yogurt, and a coffee.
  • You can order food from outside and they will deliver to the room. (No credit for unused meal from the hotel, which is expected.)

What travellers thought, according to testimonials collected on the Facebook Groups “Canada Hotel Quarantine for Returning Travellers” and “Canada Hotel Quarantine/Hôtel Quarantaine”:

About the service:

  • I was told on the phone that a shuttle would be provided, but this was not the case. An airport worker has an information sheet for each hotel showing which have shuttles and which you will need to get a taxi, for which you will be reimbursed. (They don’t reimburse you for the tip to the taxi driver)
  • The room wasn’t ready when people arrived late at night.
  • About the food:

  1. I’m staying at the Executive Vintage hotel in downtown Vancouver. The food is a set menu and absolutely deplorable. Last night was some kind of stuffed chicken in bed of White Uncle Ben’s instant rice with frozen vegetable in an instant white sauce and a white Chinese bun. The salad is just greens with a horrible sauce on it and it’s placed on the hot meal container so it is warm and wilted. This morning‘s powdered scrambled eggs, fried potatoes and a chinese white bun was tasteless and unappetizing. My daughter is in another room with my 7 year old grand daughter and they will now be ordering food through Uber.
This is absolutely ridiculous considering the prices we have paid to have meals supplied.
They have supplied 1 coffee capsule for the coffee machine for a 3 day stay. You can ask for more and they will bring it up but I had thought the who idea was to not have contact with anyone.
There should have been measures in place to provide healthy meals but I don’t think the government employees setting up this program set up any guidelines or standards to be followed.
