How to Make $4K a Month Renting Out Your RV

Imagine if you could find a way to make money from renting out your RV when you’re not using it! How does earning a few thousand bucks a month sound to you? Too good to be true?

If you’re like 90% of RV owners who use their RV less than one month a year, then you understand the frustration of having your RV sitting in your driveway costing YOU money! Find out how you can earn a little extra money by renting your RV… and we’re not talking pennies here!

How Can You Make Money Renting Out Your RV?

It doesn’t have to be risky, hard and complicated. It should be fun, easy and profitable! Firstly, here’s what NOT to do. Don’t rent your RV out to friends and neighbours for the weekend.

What if an accident happens? They’re not on your insurance policy. What if they argue that the awning was already broken? Or what if they don’t want to pay you in the end? RVs are pricey, and you can make money renting them, but you need to do it safely and wisely.

Avoid the headache and use a peer-to-peer platform to rent your RV.

These services do everything for you by:

  • Providing complete insurance coverage;
  • Putting your RV in front of thousands of verified renters;
  • Offering roadside assistance for your renter in case something happens.

You don’t want to miss out on these opportunities by renting directly to friends.

What is RVezy?

RVezy is THE platform to use to connect RV owners and RV renters. It’s like Airbnb for RVs.

Before making the big splurge to buy an RV, do your research to see how you can make the most out of your purchase. Basically, RVezy takes care of everything: insurance, bookings and all the legal stuff for you.

Is it Safe to Rent Out My RV?

➤ Yes, it’s totally safe!

After investing a few thousand dollars in your RV, you might be a bit skeptical about letting it go for a few days with anyone who owns a driver’s licence. However, learning how the insurance coverage works will reassure you.

➤ Every rental is fully insured.

RVezy covers:

  • a million dollars in liability coverage;
  • collision & comprehensive;
  • all physical damages;
  • fire, theft & vandalism.

➤ RVezy screens every renter to ensure they’ve had a valid driver’s license for 8+ years and a clean insurance profile.

➤ Your RV is fully protected by a commercial fleet insurance policy when it is being rented through RVezy.

Basically, when you’re using your RV for personal use, you’re covered by your own personal insurance policy.

The minute your RV is rented through RVezy, on the trip start date, the insurance coverage switches over to RVezy’s rental policy and your RV is protected for the duration of the rental.

After the rental is over, you’re back to your own personal coverage… easy as that! The best part is that your personal insurance is never affected by any incidents that happen during a rental through RVezy. In case of any accident or collision, any claim will be handled directly by RVezy.

How Do You Start Using RVezy?

You list your RV on RVezy.com, you choose the price and the days you want to rent your RV, and you will get booking requests that you can accept or decline. You control how much money you want to make and how often you want to rent your unit.

How Much Does It Cost To Rent Out Your RV Online?

It’s free to list your RV on RVezy.

All you need to do is take pictures, write a description, and set your availability/rates.

Although it is free to list your RV online, be aware that you’ll have to factor in additional maintenance costs since your RV will be more used than usual.

Can You Really Make a Lot of Money Renting Out Your RV?

For sure!

Some RVs can be rented for $300 per day, so their owners could be making up to $9K a month if fully booked. On RVezy’s website, it mentions up to $1400 per week, which matches our experience.

We have been making up to 4K $ a month renting our Ford Transit Campervan, and we are not the most expensive option at all. We rent our unit for around $165 a night.

Here are a few not-so-secret secrets to make a lot of money when renting out your RV:

  1. Extra Mileage: NEVER offer unlimited mileage as you don’t want renters crossing the country with your RV for free. You can make a lot of money with the extra mileage. We personally include 125 miles per day and charge $0.35 per extra mile. If our renter does 500 miles more, it’s $175 more for us.
  2. Delivery: Offer a lot of delivery options, from different airports and pick-up points. You can make an extra $100, $200, maybe even $300 if you price your delivery wisely (you have to choose a price that you make a profit which more than the fuel expenses, of course.
  3. Cleaning fee: This is not optional in our case, and we make few extra bucks with this each time. To clean the RV, it’s $8 at the carwash (not including our time), and we charge $50 to $100.
  4. Add-ons: Any adds-on can be a  good way to increase your profit. Examples are a portable BBQ, bike rack, propane refill prepayment, emptying septic prepayment, etc.

Sometimes we make 50% more money because of these add-ons!

Also, remember to increase your price for holidays and popular dates!

Are There Any Service Fees for Renting Your RV Through RVezy?

RVezy takes a 20% service fee to cover insurance, maintain their platform, market your RV listing, and provide owners and renters with top-notch customer support.

So, on a $1000 rental, you keep $800, which is still pretty great considering the peace of mind it offers!

How Do You Get Paid?

You’ll get the payments in your bank account through direct deposit.

With RVezy, you’ll get paid the first 50% of the payout 24 hours after the rental start date. The second 50% will be released when the RV is returned, and the closeout process has been completed.

Don’t be shy to follow up with your renters to leave a review once they’ve completed their rentals. You might feel like someone begging for reviews like on TripAdvisor, but trust us, this is the only way the second 50% of your payment will be released. It’s actually part of the closeout process with RVezy.

Do I Have to Pay Taxes When I Earn Money Renting my RV Through RVezy?

Owners have to declare the RVezy income like any other extra income. It’s best to talk to your accountant or tax expert.

It would help if you kept your expense bills as some may be deductible from your income.

If you have a tax number and wish to apply your own tax, you can easily do that on RVEzy by editing the listing price in your dashboard.

How Do You Create a Listing That Will Get a Ton of Leads?

➤  Name your Motorhome with an attractive caption. You want to sell your RV experience by highlighting the best elements of your RV, but you don’t want to oversell it. Also, make sure to avoid errors and misspellings in your description.

➤  Now, the critical part is to upload photos of your RV! It is the most common mistake of beginner renters NOT to put enough pictures or add pictures that are not appealing.

We recommend a minimum of 6 photos, but 10 is ideal. Pictures are key selling points! The icing on the cake is to choose your cover picture wisely!

Owner’s tip: Check the other listings in the same category as your RV to see how you can make your own listing stand out. Pay close attention to their pictures, descriptions, add-ons, pricing, and ask yourself: would you rent this RV?

If you have questions during or after the listing process, RVezy has a dedicated team to help owners get the most out of the platform.

Now you have all the information so start making money with your RV. For more information, find out our detailed review of using Rvezy.
